Channa dhal payasam

Very rare combination for the payasam ,which is finger licking.Usually made at our household for varalakshmi pooja.




Serves : 4

Cooking Time : 50 min

Ingredients :

Grated coconut 3 to 4 tbs

Cashew 6 to 7 nos

Rasins 8 to 10 nos

Ghee 1 tsp

Cardamom powder ¼ tsp

Channa dhal I cup

Brown Sugar 1 cup

Coconut milk 1 cup

Method :

In 1/2 cup of boiling water add the brown sugar and wait for it to dissolve. As it cools to room temperature strain it .[ to remove the dirt in the brown sugar]

In a pressure cooker add 1 ½ cup water and cook the dhal for 10 minutes .[ dhal should be in pinching consistency ,make sure it is not overcooked ]

Now add the brown sugar mixture to the dhal and allow it to cook well .The sweetness should get into the dhal and raw smell should subside.

Now add the coconut milk.

In a small pan heat ghee to fry the rasins ,cashew and coconut to slight brown colour and add to the payasam .

Garnish with cardamom powder.

Serve hot.


This sweet is an obession and never makes one content with one helping !!!
