Green Gram Masala

Green gram Masala is simply delicious and protein enriched. When cooked with spices and tomatoes it has an aromatic flavour.

All time Favourite !!

Highly Recommended !!




Serves : 2-3

Cooking time : 20 min


Ingredients :

Green gram 175gms

Turmeric 1/4tsp

Chilli powder ¼ -1/2 tsp

Asafoetida ¼ tsp

Castor oil few drops

Mustard ¼ tsp

Cumin ¼ tsp

Coriander seeds ¼ tsp

Small onions 3-4 (chopped )

Green chilly 1 or 2

Curry leaves a few

Tomatoes 2 (chopped)

Coriander Leaves to garnish

Ghee 1 -2 tsp


Method :

Pressure cook the green gram with turmeric and castor oil . (10 min )

In a kadai heat ghee ,throw in mustard ,cumin ,let it splutter.

Add onions ,green chilly and curry leaves , let it change colour .

Add tomatoes and toss till it gets mushy.

Add salt and asafoetida .

Add water ,give a mix ,add it to the cooked dhal.

Now add chilli powder ,give it a good mix .

Let it cook till the mixture thickens and raw smell fades.

Garnish with coriander leaves .

Drizzle ghee for an enriched flavour .

Serve hot with rice or roti .
