Nandu ( crab ) Kuzhambu – Nattu Style

The month of July bears the zodiac sign of the crab and hence its here on this months menu !!

Crab / Nandu is the most tastiest of the sea food. The spices used is the authentic ones and hence it enhances the taste of this meat .This was fondly cooked for me by one our family friend Bangaramma with whom the summer vacation was well spent in the Queen of Hills.


Serves : 3-4

Cooking Time : 45 min


Ingredients :

Crab 700 gms

Onion 1 ( chopped )

Mustard ¼ tsp

Red Chilly 2

Curry leaves few

Coconut Paste 2-3 tbsp ( paste / milk)

Oil 1 tbsp


Fry in oil & grind :

Red chilly 8-10

Small Onions 15- 20

Turmeric ¼ tsp

Coriander seeds 2 tbsp

Castor oil 1 tsp


Method :

In a pan heat oil ,throw in mustard ,let it splutter.

Add curry leaves ,red chilly and onions ,give it a mix.

Add salt to taste.

Add the ground paste with required water , let it boil.

Now add the crab , give a mix.

Close and cook , till meat is soft.( 10 - 12 min )

Time to add coconut milk / paste .

As it is boils switch off the flame.

Serve hot with rice.
