Tomato Sambar

Sambar Love !! Must Try !!

Sambar is simply delicious .The dhal cooked with tomato is smooth and to enrich its flavour is the coconut milk .For a breakfast its definitely a super dish .Our households

favourite dish and is present every week .


Serves : 3

Cooking Time : 25 min


Ingredients :

Toor dhal ½ ( cooked )

Onions 2 ( sliced )

Tomato 3-4 ( sliced )

Curry leaves a few

Red chilly 1

Sambar Powder ½ - ¾ tsp

Asafoetida ¼ tsp

Mustard ¼ tsp

Urad Dhal ¼ tsp

Coconut milk ¾ cup

Salt to taste

Coriander leaves to garnish

Oil 11/2 tbsp

Ghee 1 tbsp


Method :

Heat oil in a pan ,throw in mustard as it splutters add urad dhal let it get brown.

Throw in onions ,curry leaves and one red chilly ,allow it to get brown .

Throw in tomatoes and let it get mushy .

Add cooked dhal , sambar powder ,salt , asafoetida ,let it cook till raw smell fades away.

Then switch off the stove , add coconut milk ,mix well

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Drizzle ghee on top for a scrumptious taste.

Serve hot with idly / dosa/ pongal.
