Idly in a tumbler !!
This is my grand mother's recipe ,and she would fondly make it , in the times well spent with her.I love those golden carefree days .As a kid weekends were with her ,so she would grind this batter on Fridays and serve fondly for Saturday morning breakfast.She was too an awesome cook.Whatever she made was very very tasty.
Serves : 4- 5
Cooking Time : 50 min
Ingredients :
Whole Urad dhal 2 cups
Idly Rice 4 cups
Green chilly 2 ( chopped )
Curry Leaves few
Asafoetida ¼ tsp
Turmeric ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 1 – 2 tbsp
Method :
Soak dhal and rice separately for 5 – 6 hours.
Then grind the urad dhal first to a smooth paste.
Then make the rice to a coarse paste.
Mix both the batter together with salt and turmeric powder.
Tamper with mustard ,urad dhal ,chilly curry leaves and leave it overnight to ferment.
Moring mix the batter ,grease stainless steel tumblers with ghee and pour the batter into the tumblers .
Steam it for 15 – 20 min.
Serve it with coconut chutney and sambar.
