Venpongal

Venpongal is an all time favourite !!

High on Taste !!

Being Pooja / Dussehra Time ,the festive season calls for an offering to the goddess and this Pongal proves to be one of the delicacies which serves as an offering.This mostly steals the show and satisfies the taste buds too.


Serves : 3

Cooking Time : 30 min


Ingredients :

Rice 1 cup

Moong Dhal 1/4 cup

Ginger 3/4 tsp

Cumin 3/4 tsp

Pepper 3/4 tsp

Cashew 7-9

Curry leaves a few

Green Chilly 1or 2

Asafoetida 1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil &Ghee 11/2 -2 tbsp


Method :


In a cooker pressure pan add the ghee & oil mixture.

Throw in cumin ,let it splutter.

Throw in pepper ,allow it to splutter.

Add the chopped ginger ,curry leaves , green chilly and cashews too.Give a toss.

Add the washed rice and dhal .

Add water (3 – 31/2 cups ) asafoetida and salt .Mix well .

Close and cook under pressure for 10 -15 min.

When the pressure is released ,open and give a good mix.

Drizzle ghee on top.

Serve hot with chutney / sambar / tomato chutney.
