Prawn Curry – Kongu Style

Prawns is one of the tastiest of sea foods.This is made in our local Kongu style which makes it even more tasty A simple easy gravy with fantastic flavour and makes one drooling over it No one goes without going in for a second helping.

Ingredients :

  • Prawns 200 gms (de -veined & washed )
  • Onions few
  • Curry leaves few
  • Red chilly 1 (optional )
  • Mustard ¼ tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Coconut milk ½ cup (optional )
  • Fry in oil and grind:
  • Small onions 8 -10
  • Red chilly 5- 6
  • Coriander seeds 1 – 11.5 tbsp
  • Turmeric ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves a few

Method :

  • First fry the ingredients and make a paste.
  • In a vessel heat oil add mustard ,as it splutters ,add onions, curry leaves , red chilly, and allow it to get brown.
  • Add the ground paste with required water ,add salt and allow it to simmer with a closed lid, till raw smell leaves.
  • Now time to add prawns and close it with a lid and cook for few minutes only. ( over cooking of the prawns will make it rubbery )
  • Switch off the flame and add coconut milk .

Note :

  • Addition of coconut milk enhances the flavor of the curry and enriches the taste.
