A very unique tasting Pongal !!

The taste & aroma of the sugar candy stands out.!!

From the usual jaggery pongal its unique & healthy with loads of benefit from the palm sugar candy.

Ingredients:-

  • Basmati rice 1 cup
  • Moong dhal ¼ – ½ cup
  • Palm sugar candy 1-11/2 cup ( powdered )
  • Ghee ½ cup ( to taste )
  • Grated coconut 3-5 tbsp (roasted in ghee )
  • Cardamon powder ¼ tsp
  • Cashew 7-8 ( optional )
  • Raisins 10 -12( optional )

Method :-

  • Wash & cook the dhal & rice with water .( 1:2 ratio ) in a pressure cooker for 10 -12 min.
  • Slowly release the pressure .Give it a good mix.
  • Let the dhal & rice be smashed well.
  • Add the powdered candy mix well & transfer it to the stove.
  • The candy will melt and get googy.
  • Add ghee now & then ,keep stirring ,till the raw smell fades away.
  • Add the fried coconut .
  • If raisins & cashews are opted to be added then it’s the right time now.
  • Serve hot.

Note :-

  • Instead of rice any millet can also be used.
  • The more the ghee you add more the taste.
