Bone/Yellumbu Kuzhambu

Bone Kuzhambu is simple yet tasty Kuzhambu. The blend of spices ,cooked with bones leaves a beautiful flavour. The Bones which are usually thrown away is used to make this curry .The juices of the bones cooked with ground spices makes the gravy yummy.

Ingredients :

  • Bones 500 gms
  • Small onions a few
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly 1
  • Cinnamon 2″
  • Peas a handful
  • Potatoes 2(chopped )
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

Fry in oil & Grind :

  • Small Onions a few
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly 6-7
  • Ginger 1/2″
  • Garlic 4-5 pearls
  • Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander seeds 11/4 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds 1tsp
  • Fennel 1 tsp
  • Cloves 2
  • Coconut 2 tbsp
  • Oil 1 tsp

Method :

  • In a pressure cooker heat oil.
  • Throw in cinnamon ,let it splutter.
  • Throw in onions ,curry leaves and red chilly , let it change colour.
  • Add the bones , give it a toss.
  • Add the ground paste and mix well .
  • Add water ( 1-2 cups ) and salt ,give it a good mix.
  • Close and cook . ( 10 – 15 min approx. )
  • Release the pressure , give it a stir .
  • Add potatoes and peas ,stir it and close the lid and cook till vegetables are soft.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Allow it to cook till oil surfaces.
