This payasam is simply scrumptious !!

Heart throb of the household !!!

Never knew that the red rice of Kerala can taste this delicious. The Red Rice cooked slowly in milk is the high light ,and this results in a lovely drooling payasam .No one resists a second helping .

When my kids were young , a big helping of this would be cooked and left on the dinning table ,they would live on this the whole day . ( no lunch would be cooked )

Ingredients :

  • Broken red rice 1 small cup
  • Milk 1 lit
  • Sugar 1 – 11/2 cups ( to taste )
  • Ghee 1 tbsp

Method :

  • Bring the milk to boil in a cooker.
  • As it boils add the washed rice close and cook on low flame for 30 – 40 min.
  • When the pressure releases open it , by now it would have become thick.
  • Add sugar and let it cook till raw smell of the sugar fades.
  • In case the consistency is thick ,then add milk to the required consistency and give it a boil.
  • Switch off the stove and add ghee ,give it a mix.
  • Serve hot or cold.

Note :

  • If mangoes are in season then add small cubes of it and serve.( tastes simply splendid )
