Very rare combination for the payasam ,which is finger licking.Usually made at our household for varalakshmi pooja.

  • Grated coconut 3 to 4 tbs
  • Cashew 6 to 7 nos
  • Rasins 8 to 10 nos
  • Ghee 1 tsp
  • Cardamom powder ¼ tsp
  • Channa dhal I cup
  • Brown Sugar 1 cup
  • Coconut milk 1 cup

Method :

  • In 1/2 cup of boiling water add the brown sugar and wait for it to dissolve. As it cools to room temperature strain it .[ to remove the dirt in the brown sugar]
  • In a pressure cooker add 1 ½ cup water and cook the dhal for 10 minutes .[ dhal should be in pinching consistency ,make sure it is not overcooked ]
  • Now add the brown sugar mixture to the dhal and allow it to cook well .The sweetness should get into the dhal and raw smell should subside.
  • Now add the coconut milk.
  • In a small pan heat ghee to fry the rasins ,cashew and coconut to slight brown colour and add to the payasam .
  • Garnish with cardamom powder.
  • Serve hot.
  • This sweet is an obession and never makes one content with one helping !!!
