Nalliyellumbu is a special delicacy which is sought after many .This a served in many resturants and is in fact pre booked in many too .This dish is special at our household too .The bones has to be booked in advance with our butcher . The Nalli Yellumbu is actually cooked with all the spices and coconut ,but the taste is at its heights as the juices of this bone is very exotic ,hence makes the masala or the gravy is splendid.

Ingredients :

  • Nalli Yellumbu 500 gms
  • Onions 1 ( sliced )
  • Tomatoes 2 ( sliced )
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Fry in oil & grind to paste :

  • Small onions a handful
  • Red chilly 6-7 (to taste )
  • Garlic 6-7 pearls
  • Ginger ½ “
  • Cinnamon 1”
  • Cloves 3-4
  • Fennel ½ tsp
  • Poppy Seeds 1 tsp
  • Coconut a cup (grated )
  • Turmeric ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder 11/2 tsp
  • Oil 1 tsp

Method :

  • In a pressure cooker heat oil add onions & curry leaves ,toss till it changes colour.
  • Add tomatoes and let it get mushy.
  • Add the nalli yellumbu and give it a toss.
  • Add the ground masala and give it a good mix.
  • Add a cup of water ,salt and give it a good mix .
  • Close & cook for 10 minutes .( approx. )
  • Release the pressure ,check if its cooked .
  • Allow it to cook till raw smell fades away.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves .
  • Serve hot with parotta/dosa/idly/ rice.
