Nethilimeen Kuzhambu

Nethilimeen Kuzhambu is a very tasty dish .Nethili / Anchovy is one of the tastiest fish .

The blend with spices with tamarind and coconut milk makes this curry a very delicious one .

Usually fish curry tastes better the next day when the gravy is soaked with fish and the flavour is highly

enriched.

Ingredients :

  • Ne thilimeen 150 gms
  • Fenugreek ¼ tsp
  • Mustard ¼ tsp
  • Urad dhal ¼ tsp
  • Garlic 4-5 ( chopped )
  • Onions 10 – 15 no ( chopped )
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly 1
  • Tamarind extract 2-3 tbsp
  • Tomatoes 2-3 ( chopped )
  • Coconut milk ¾ cup
  • Salt to taste

Fry in oil & grind :

  • Small onions a handful
  • Red chilly 4-5 ( to taste )
  • Turmeric ¼ tsp
  • Coriander seeds 11/4 tbsp
  • Castor oil 1 tsp

Method :

  • In a pan heat oil ,throw in fenugreek ,allow it to splutter.
  • Throw in mustard ,urad dhal allow it to splutter .
  • Throw in garlic ,onions ,curry leaves ,red chilly ,let it change colour.
  • Add tomatoes ,let it get mushy .
  • Add the ground paste ,give it a mix.
  • Add water (11/2 cup ) and let it cook till raw smell fades away.
  • Add tamarind extract and give it a boil.
  • Now add the nethilimeen ,give a gentle stir .
  • Close and cook . ( 5-7 min )
  • Open the lid ,switch off the stove .
  • Add coconut milk and give it a shake.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot / cold with rice /rice roti /dosa /idly.
