Simple Mutton Biriyani which very tasty and easy to make. This is one of the favourite of our household.

This can be made quickly at the sudden advent of guests ,as it require only simple ingredients which are always available at home.This Recipe is recommended to beginners too as it can never go wrong.

Ingredients :

  • Seerakasamba Rice 2 cups
  • Mutton ½ kg
  • Bay leaf 2-3
  • Cinnamon 1″
  • Star anise 2
  • Mace 1-2 piece
  • Lime 1
  • Green & Black Cardamom 2-3(each)
  • Green &Red Chilly 2(each)
  • Onions 2-3(sliced )
  • Tomatoes 2-3(chopped )
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Coconut milk 2 cups
  • Mint leaves 2-3(handfuls )
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil &ghee 2 tbsp

Grind to paste :

  • Red chilly 10-12
  • Garlic 10pearls
  • Ginger 3/4″
  • Green chilly 2
  • Fennel 3/4-1 tsp
  • Poppy seeds 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon 1″
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp

METHOD :

  • In a pressure cooker heat oil & ghee together ,throw in whole spices ,allow it to splutter.
  • Add chillies ,let it splutter.
  • Add onions and a oinch of salt too , let it change colour.
  • Add turmeric and toss.
  • Add tomatoes and allow it to get mushy.
  • Add the ground paste with little salt and fry a bit.
  • Add meat and give it a toss.
  • Add curds and handful of mint leaves ,and give a quick mix.
  • Close the cooker and cook under pressure for 10 – 15 min ,till the meat is ¾ cooked .
  • Now when the pressure is released ,add coconut milk and water .( approx. 4-41/2 cups )
  • Close with a lid for the water to boil fast.
  • As the water boils add the washed rice ,mint leaves and lime juice and give a good mix.
  • Close with lid and cook on low flame for 10 – 12 min.
  • Wait for the pressure to be released ,and give a gentle mix.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • If desired drizzle ghee on top for enriched flavour.
  • Serve hot with Raita.
