Milagu Podi Chutney / Chilly Powder Chutney

My favourite chutney !!

This was my grand mothers specialty !!

In the earlier times when a mixie was not prevalent ,she would just mix it well with her hands.She would always use old tamarind mentioning that would only give a good taste, but of course the colour was not appealing.

Ingredients :

  • Coconut 1 cup
  • Cumin ¾ tsp
  • Puffed gram 1tsp
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly powder ½ tsp
  • Tamarind extract 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method :

  • Grind all the ingredients to a coarse paste.
  • Transfer to a cup.
  • Tamper it with mustard ,urad dhal and curry leaves . ( optional )
  • Serve with Appam ,idly ,dosa.
