This is a very easy dish which is well known in the Kongu belt -Coimbatore.

Arsiparupu sadham is known for to give a hand at advent of sudden guests or for a lazy day.The rice cooked with dhal and spices is simply delicious and healthy as well.

Ingredients :

  • Rice 1 cup
  • Mixed dhal ¼ – ½ cup ( mixed dhal )
  • Bay leaf 2
  • Cinnamon 1”
  • Mustard ¼ tsp
  • Urad dhal ¼ tsp
  • Turmeric ¼ tsp
  • Red chilly powder ½ tsp (to taste )
  • Onion 1 ( chopped )
  • Red chilly 1
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Coconut ½ cup ( grated )
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil & ghee 1 ½ tbsp

Method :

  • In a cooker heat oil ,ghee add bay leaf ,cinnamon ,let it splutter.
  • Throw in mustard and urad dhal ,allow it to splutter.
  • Add onions ,red chilly and curry leaves ,let it get brown.
  • Add turmeric powder ,asafoetida ,red chilly powder and toss.
  • Add water ( 3 cups ) , washed rice dhal ,coconut ,salt , coriander leaves ,give it a mix .
  • Close and cook ( 10 – 12 min )
  • Open after pressure is released ,mix gently.
  • Drizzle ghee for an enhanced taste.
  • Serve hot with pickle ,appalam.
