This is a very easy dish which is well known in the Kongu belt -Coimbatore.
Arsiparupu sadham is known for to give a hand at advent of sudden guests or for a lazy day.The rice cooked with dhal and spices is simply delicious and healthy as well.
Ingredients :
- Rice 1 cup
- Mixed dhal ¼ – ½ cup ( mixed dhal )
- Bay leaf 2
- Cinnamon 1”
- Mustard ¼ tsp
- Urad dhal ¼ tsp
- Turmeric ¼ tsp
- Red chilly powder ½ tsp (to taste )
- Onion 1 ( chopped )
- Red chilly 1
- Curry leaves a few
- Coconut ½ cup ( grated )
- Coriander leaves to garnish
- Salt to taste
- Oil & ghee 1 ½ tbsp
Method :
- In a cooker heat oil ,ghee add bay leaf ,cinnamon ,let it splutter.
- Throw in mustard and urad dhal ,allow it to splutter.
- Add onions ,red chilly and curry leaves ,let it get brown.
- Add turmeric powder ,asafoetida ,red chilly powder and toss.
- Add water ( 3 cups ) , washed rice dhal ,coconut ,salt , coriander leaves ,give it a mix .
- Close and cook ( 10 – 12 min )
- Open after pressure is released ,mix gently.
- Drizzle ghee for an enhanced taste.
- Serve hot with pickle ,appalam.
