Samai / Little Millet Kitchadi

Healthy and wholesome meal.

This is a very filling meal which is blend with peas , tomato and ginger garlic paste .

The millet by itself is bland but with addition of spices and vegetable makes it very tasty.

Ingredients :

  • Samai 1 cup
  • Peas 1 cup
  • Onion 1
  • Tomatoes 2
  • Turmeric ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red Chilly 1
  • Green chilly 2
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Lime juice 1 tbsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Method :

  • Heat ghee in a cooker ,add mustard as it splutters add urad dhal ,allow it to splutter.
  • Add onions ,curry leaves ,red and green chilly and allow it to turn colour.
  • Add tomatoes ,allow it to get mushy .
  • Add ginger garlic paste and toss.
  • Add turmeric , salt ,and toss
  • Add samai and toss.
  • Add water and lime juice , give it a mix.
  • Close with the lid and cook under pressure for 10 min.
  • Open the lid and give it a mix.
  • Drizzle ghee and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.
