Dal Dhokli is a favourite dish of the house hold. Adapted from one of my mom’s friends kitchen.

The Dhokli is all time kids favourite .The wheat flour is cooked with the dhal and water makes it very flavourful. Dhal Dhokli always stands out in a spread .

Ingredients :

  • Cinnamon 1”
  • Fennel ¼ tsp
  • Mustard ¼ tsp
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly 2
  • Green chilly 4
  • Ginger 1 tsp
  • Onion 1 ( chopped )
  • Tomatoes 2 ( sliced )
  • Ground nuts 1 cup ( cooked )
  • Toor dhal 1 cup
  • Fennel powder ¼ – ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch ( optional )
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
  • Wheat flour ½ cup ( kneaded )
  • Oil 11/2 tbsp
  • Ghee 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method :

  • Kneed the wheat flour to a chapatti consistency and set aside.
  • In a pan heat oil , throw in cinnamon ,fennel ,mustard ,allow it to splutter.
  • Add curry leaves ,green and red chilly ,let it splutter.
  • Add onion and ginger and toss .
  • Add tomatoes some salt and allow it to get mushy.
  • Add cooked groundnuts ,cooked toor dal, fennel powder , salt and give it a mix.
  • Allow it to cook on sim.
  • In the mean time roll out the kneaded flour to chapati and cut it into diamond shape .( Dhokli)
  • As the dal is getting cooked add these Dhokli ‘s slowly one by one. Make sure there is enough water for it to get cooked . Do not stir as soon as you add the Dhokli’s ,for it may get disintegrated. Close and cook .( 10 -12 min approx. )
  • Open the lid to check if the Dhokli’s are cooked .
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and drizzle ghee for an enhanced taste.
  • Serve hot with plain rice or jeera rice.
