Festive Delight !! Must Try !!

One of the most delicious payasam !!

With jack fruit in season for chitrakanni ,best time to make it !!

This was childhood favourite and remains to be the same till today .My mom would religiously make it for chitrakanni ,which was apparently come during summer holiday break .The fruit as such is high on flavour and smell .When it is combined with jaggery and coconut it is simply enriched and delicious.

Ingredients :

  • Jack fruit 200 gms (cleaned & chopped )
  • Jaggery 1 cup
  • Cashew 8
  • Raisins 10
  • Cardamom powder ¼ tsp
  • Ghee 2 tsp

Method :

  • Boil water in a vessel add jaggery , give it a boil and strain it (to check impurities ). Set aside.
  • In a pan heat ghee and fry cashew ,raisins and coconut and set aside.
  • In a thick bottomed vessel heat ghee and fry the jack fruit.
  • Add water ( app 1 cup ) ,give it a stir ,close & cook till the fruit is soft.
  • Let it cool .Then transfer it to a mixer jar and make a smoot paste.
  • Transfer it to the thick bottomed vessel ,add the jaggery syrup and cook till raw smell fades.
  • Time to add the fried ingredients and cardamom powder and mix well.
  • Serve hot or cold.
