Kongu style Kadala Kuzhambu

Kadala Kuzhambu all time favourite , which can never go wrong by amateurs too !!

The spices blended with coconut and tamarind ,when cooked with the lentils is simply aromatic !!

Ingredients :

  • Sundal Kadalai 150 gms ( soak overnight )
  • Small onions a few ( chopped )
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Mustard ¼ tsp
  • Urad dhal ¼ tsp
  • Oil 1tsp

Fry in oil & grind to a paste :

  • Small onions 10 -15 nos
  • Red chilly 3-4 ( to taste )
  • Turmeric ¼ tsp
  • Cumin ¼ tsp
  • Coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  • Coconut 1 cup ( grated )
  • Tamarind 1’’

Method :

  • Boil the sundal kadalai in a cooker .( 5-7 whistles )
  • Release the pressure and check if its cooked.
  • Add the ground paste ,with salt and sufficient water .
  • Tamper with mustard ,urad dhal ,onions ,curry leaves ,red chilly (optional ) and add to the masala mixture .
  • Allow it to boil till raw smell leaves .
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice ,puttu ,dosa .
