Vada Curry is a chennai special .This can be made with left over vada too. Vada Curry is a good combination with all the south specials like dosa or idly or appam.

Ingredients :

  • Cinnamon 1″
  • Mustard 1/4tsp
  • Urad dhal 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves a few
  • Red chilly 1 or 2
  • Onion 1 (chopped )
  • Tomatoes 2 (chopped )
  • Turmeric 1/4tsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Grind to paste:

  • Coconut 1 cup(grated )
  • Puffed gram dhal 1-11/2 tbsp
  • Fennel 1/2 tsp
  • Poppy seeds 1 tsp
  • Garlic 2 pearls
  • Ginger 1/2″
  • Coriander powder 3/4 tsp
  • Chilly Powder 1/2-3/4 tsp

Method :

  • In a pan heat oil throw in cinnamon , let it splutter.
  • Add mustard ,urad dhal ,let it splutter.
  • Add curry leaves and red chillies ,allow it to splutter.
  • Add onions , a pinch of salt and toss till transparent.
  • Add the tomatoes and fry till mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder and give a toss.
  • Add the ground paste, salt and give it a toss.
  • Add water ,give a mix.
  • Allow it to boil ,till raw smell leaves.
  • Just before switching off the flame ,crumble the vada and stir it.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.

Note :

  • Add the vada just before serving .
